While many other media outlets have predicted the Huskies to finish second in the Mid-American Conference and rank Northern Illinois well out of their top 50, Sporting News as a little more respect for the defending MAC West champions, ranking NIU 34th in its
top 50 countdown.
With nine starters returning on offense, including first-team All-MAC
quarterback Chandler Harnish, and some promising young players ready to
step up on defense, expectations are high once again. Anything less than
a MAC championship will be a disappointment, and it should be.
