BIG WEEK FOR FUTURE HUSKIES

This is playoff week for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy in Frisco, Texas, where the clubs of four future Huskies are competing in the 32-team field, hoping to qualify for the finals to be held in Houston, Texas in mid-July. The Chicago Fire Under-18 team and the Lonestar SC Under-18 team both feature players who will suit up for the Huskies.

Charlie Oliver is representing NIU and the Chicago Fire, who dropped their opening match 2-1 on Monday. Oliver and the Fire return to the field tonight at 8:30 p.m. Bertrand Gaschot, Kyle McDonald and Parker Thornton are all members of the Lonestar Under-18 team that fell in their opening match yesterday, 1-0. Lonestar returns to the field tonight, also at 8:30 p.m.

In other news involving incoming soccer players, Matt Pritchard from Creighton Prep in Omaha, Neb., was named as the co-captain of the Nebraska All-State team by the Lincoln Journal Star after helping lead Creighton Prep to another state championship.
