Huskie Happenings

NIUHuskies.com, the official online home for Northern Illinois Athletics, is pleased to announce the launch of a new blog, "Huskie Happenings." The section includes links to a daily newsstand, online chats, feature stories and interviews, game-day and multimedia information, promotions, calendars and much more. We hope this will become your first and last stop everyday for all the information you crave about Huskie Athletics.

The "Huskie Happenings" addition will be more interactive with visitors of NIUHuskies.com. For that to work, this must be a a two-way street, or even one of those really confusing five-way stoplights. That means we need to hear from you. I know you're out there, Mr. or Ms. Fan Who Wants to Be Heard. So step up, and e-mail us at houghtaling@niu.edu.

BASEBALL, SOFTBALL ON FOR TODAY!

Pretty soon, Lindsay Chouinard's undefeated team won't need to wear earwarmers. OK, maybe not that soon!

Both the NIU baseball AND softball teams will be in action today in non-conference tilts. Ed Mathey's squad will host Milwaukee (formerly known as UW-Milwaukee) at Ralph McKinzie Field beginning at 3:05 p.m., while the softball team will look to record its fifth-consecutive victory when the Huskies travel to South Bend, Ind., to take on host Notre Dame. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. Both games can be followed through Gametracker on NIUHuskies.com. Speaking of softball, in case you didn't see, the Huskies SWEPT the MAC-West Player and Pitcher of the Week honors Monday. Read our recap by clicking here, and check out the Daily Chronicle John Sahly's report here.

TICKET CONTEST COMING TO A CLOSE

Friday is the last day to submit your entry for the 2009 Football Ticket Design Contest. NIU athletics is encouraging all kids from grades K-8 to participate in the "Show Your Huskie Spirit" Ticket Design Contest. Three winners will have their design printed on thousands of Huskie football tickets. For more info, and to submit your entry, click here!

LININ' IT UP

NIU head football coach Jerry Kill and his staff signed seven defensive linemen on National Signing Day after losing the two-time MAC MVP in Larry English, plus starters Craig Rusch and Alex Krutsch to graduation. As the DeKalb Daily Chronicle's John Sahly writes in this story., the Huskies will spend spring practice, which continued into its second week on Tuesday at Huskie Stadium, plus two-a-day camp in the fall to try and meet two objectives on the defensive line.

VIDEO: MORE FROM SPRING FOOTBALL!

John Sahly continued his video interview series following Tuesday's spring practice at Huskie Stadium. This time, Sahly caught up with fullback Kyle Skarb. Click HERE for the entire interview!
