There are a couple of familiar faces hard at work in the Convocation Center this summer as NIU football players Chandler Harnish and Mike Krause have signed on as interns in the Athletic Marketing and Development and Athletics Business Office, respectively.  Harnish, a business management major, will have a myriad of projects, from putting together mailings and distributing schedule cards, to selling season tickets.  Krause's duties will provide him with some real-world experience with accounting and ledgers after earning his undergraduate degree in management in May.  Krause will be a graduate student while returning to NIU to compete this fall.

NIU Senior Associate Athletic Director Christian Spears became the first individual from Northern Illinois University to go through the DeKalb Leadership Academy, a local initiative through the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce which brings together professionals from throughout the community for a series of seminars, discussions and exercises.  Spears was one of 18 individuals to go through the 2009-2010 Leadership Academy, which celebrated its "graduation" with a luncheon featuring a "commencement address" by NIU head football coach Jerry Kill. A diverse cross-section of community leaders attended the graduation and Spears' Leadership Academy class also represented several sectors of the local business community.  Kill fired up the crowd with a very apropos speech about leadership.

Northern Illinois Head Coach Jerry Kill, the Huskie football staff and other members of the NIU athletics staff were at Joe's Bar on Wheat Street in Chicago last night as NIU held an informal gathering of football alumni that attracted approximately 30 former Huskies.  The first get-together of its kind held in the city, nearly every era of Huskie football was represented, from members of the 1983 MAC Champion and Cal Bowl team to players like Josh Haldi and Nick Duffy from the early 2000s.  Kill, NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Jeff Compher and Deputy Athletic Director Robert Collins updated the group on the latest NIU football news and invited them to come "home" to Huskie Stadium this fall.

LPGA Tour Returns To Home of Huskie Golf

Rich Harvest Farms, home of NIU golf, hosted the LPGA Tour's Solheim Cup last August, and nearly a year later, the LPGA Tour has committed to the Sugar Grove, Ill. golf course again, according to Jim Owczarski's article for the Aurora Beacon-News.  While the site of the event has obviously been determined already, the date, title sponsor and kind of tournament are still in the works.  But, just as they did at the Solheim Cup, the Huskies will be involved in the event.  NIU's business school and men's and women's golf programs worked closely with the LPGA Tour during the Solheim Cup and the Huskies are expected to do the same this time around as well.
