DeKALB, Ill. - Ryan Sedevie, a Wisconsin product with experience in athletics development, marketing and promotions and licensing, will lead Northern Illinois Athletics' external operations units as the Huskies' new Associate Athletic Director for Collegiate Advancement and External Affairs, NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Sean Frazier announced Thursday.
Sedevie comes to NIU from the University of Wisconsin, where he spent the last 18 years. He began at his alma mater as an assistant in the marketing and promotions department in 1995, and worked his way up the ladder to become UW Athletics' Director of Development in March 2013. From 2007-13, he was Wisconsin's assistant director of marketing and promotions where he focused on social media, fan engagement, community outreach and marketing and promotions in football, men's and women's basketball, and volleyball. He also spent time as the Director of Internal Operations for the Badger Fund (2004-07), as a Development Assistant (2000-04) and in the Trademark Licensing department (1997-2000)
Frazier believes Sedevie will bring a fresh perspective and excellent leadership to Huskie Athletics' external operations areas.
"I'm extremely pleased to add Ryan to the NIU Athletics senior staff," Frazier said. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our department. His energy and passion will be invaluable to NIU. I'm happy fortunate to welcome Ryan, [wife] Melissa, [children] Madelyn and Gavin to the Huskie family."
At Northern Illinois, Sedevie will serve as a member of Frazier's senior staff with responsibility for the marketing, sales and game experience of NIU Athletics events with an emphasis on increasing revenue and exposure. He will lead the creation, execution and evaluation of NIU's marketing, awareness and sales campaigns and be responsible for initiatives designed to generate ticket sales and increase home attendance.
Sedevie will also manage external operations associated with NIU Athletics fundraising and special events. His duties extend to overseeing the university licensing program and managing the premium seating and suite holder hospitality for football and basketball game day. Sedevie will be Huskie Athletics' liaison to the NIU Convocation Center Box office and to NIU multimedia rightsholder, IMG College.
In addition to his external affairs responsibilities, Sedevie, a member of the Badgers' men's golf team as an undergraduate, will serve as sport administrator for the Huskie men's and women's golf programs.
Sedevie said he was looking forward to joining Frazier's team at NIU.
"I'm excited to join the NIU Athletics family and appreciate Sean for providing me with this tremendous opportunity to further the mission and vision for NIU Athletics and its student-athletes and fans," he said.
Sedevie earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin in 2000 and completed his master's in business administration from UW in 2011. Sedevie, a native of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., and his wife, Melissa, have an eight-year-old daughter, Madelyn, and a four-year-old son, Gavin.
He will begin his full-time duties at Northern Illinois on Sept. 9.
