The Huskie Sports Network
Huskie Football has two new radio homes in 2014 as fans can listen to Huskie football on AM 560 The Answer (WIND-AM) in Chicago, and on 92.5 WCPT FM in DeKalb.
Network coverage begins 30 minutes prior to kickoff before each game and features a preview of the Huskies' upcoming game along with a look at the Mid-American Conference, a visit with Athletic Director Sean T. Frazier and the NIU offensive and defensive coordinators. Following the game, listeners hear directly from NIU head coach Rod Carey as part of the post-game show.
Celebrating their 29th year broadcasting NIU Football, Bill Baker and Mark Lindo team up with "NIU Weekly" host Andy Garcia, with information from the sidelines, on all football broadcasts in 2014.
The new agreement with The Answer provides NIU fans with one Chicago address (AM 560) for every Huskie home football game, while for the first time, fans across Chicagoland will be able to hear the one-hour NIU football coaches radio show every week throughout the season. WCPT FM 92.5 is the new home of the Huskies in DeKalb and across the western suburbs and will carry every NIU football game, as well as the "Inside Huskie Football" Radio Show on Monday nights.
AM 560 The Answer will also carry 12 Huskie men's basketball games and three NIU women's basketball games to a coverage area that includes all of Chicagoland and reaches north into portions of Milwaukee. During the day, the signal can be heard across northwest Indiana and into southeast Wisconsin and northeast Illinois. AM 560 is also the place to hear all 14 episodes of "NIU Weekly," the 30-minute show which showcases the Huskies' entire athletics program and is co-hosted by Frazier and NIU sideline reporter Andy Garcia.
Baker, 66, begins his 35th year as the play-by-play voice of Northern Illinois football and basketball in 2014. A member of the NIU Athletics Hall of Fame, Baker also hosts the weekly "Inside Huskie Football" radio show and serves as master of ceremonies for various NIU Athletics banquets and events.
Lindo, 56, returns for his 29th season as the network analyst and statistician in 2014. The Aurora product spent 18 seasons as head boys basketball coach at Naperville North High School and in that role was inducted into the Illinois High School Association Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008. He was the color analyst for IHSA Television for seven seasons, and is entering his fifth year as a member of the men's basketball staff at Aurora University.
Garcia is in his second season on the Huskie sidelines and serves as co-host of the NIU Weekly Show. In addition to his duties with the Huskie football broadcasts, Garcia has been the radio voice of the NIU women's basketball program for the past three seasons.
