NIU Football Postgame Notes - vs. Bowling Green

NIU 45, Bowling Green 20

Austin Smaha had a pair of sacks and forced two fumbles in the Huskies' win.
***NIU put together its first two-game win streak of the season to improve its Mid-American Conference mark to 3-2 on the year.  The Huskies are 3-6 overall.
***NIU is now 23-1 in games played in November since 2010 and is 15-1 in MAC games played on either Tuesday or Wednesday night.

***NIU Head Coach Rod Carey won his 34th game at NIU to take over sole possession of fourth place on the school's all-time wins list. He now ranks behind only Chick Evans (132 wins), Howard Fletcher (74) and Joe Novak (63) in wins at NIU.

***NIU held Bowling Green to just 90 rushing yards on 35 carries, the lowest total by an NIU opponent since Buffalo gained just 78 yards on 23 carries last season (11-11-15). The Falcons' 314 yards of total offense was also the fewest gained by a Huskie opponent this season and the fewest since Miami (Ohio) had 309 yards on Oct. 17, 2015.

***NIU senior Joel Bouagnon scored five rushing touchdowns, tied for second on the NIU single game list for rushing touchdowns.  It is the most rushing TDs scored by a Huskie since Garrett Wolfe had five versus Western Michigan on November 23, 2005.

***Joel Bouagnon now has six rushing and one receiving touchdowns this year and 29 rushing and three receiving in his career. He moved into sixth-place on the NIU career charts for touchdowns scored with 32.

***Northern Illinois scored on its game opening drive for just the second time this season (not including the kickoff return TD by Aregeros Turner versus Buffalo) with a nine-play, 75-yard drive on its first possession.

***NIU blocked both a PAT and a field goal in the game.  William Lee blocked the Falcons' second PAT attempt while Josh Corcoran knocked down a 49-yard field goal attempt.  It was the first field goal block since Ben Compton blocked an Ohio try last year (11-24-15) and the first PAT block by a Huskie since Marlon Moore vs. Bowling Green in last year's MAC Championship game (12-4-15).

***Safety Mycial Allen recorded his second interception of the season and the fourth of his career in the second quarter. Jackson Abresch intercepted his first career pass on a fake punt attempt by BG in the second half.

***Joel Bouagnon ran for 134 yards on 26 carries to record his second 100-yard rushing game of the season and eighth of his career.

***NIU recorded its fourth game of the season with the turnover margin in its favor, intercepting Bowling Green twice while NIU QBs threw one interception.
