BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Northern Illinois University Women's Tennis suffered a 4-3 setback to Florida Atlantic University at the FAU Tennis Complex Wednesday.
"I am quite pleased with the way the team performed today, although we not get the result we wanted," said NIU head coach
Tanya Mahefu.
The Huskies (6-8) won the doubles' point for the first time in five matches, scoring victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Raven Neely (Grosse Point, Mich./Grosse Point South) and
Evelyn Youel (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) posted a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles, while
Brodie Walker (Bristol, England/Bristol Grammar School) and
Meghan Montgomerie (Irvine, Scotland/Beaconhurst) recorded a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
Both Neely and Youel also won their singles' matches. Neely extended her winning streak at No 1 singles to four by defeating Laura Fabrizi, 6-0, 7-5, and Youel scored a 6-2, 6-2 win over Naiya Oden.
The NIU women's tennis team returns to the court Mar. 24 when the Huskies travel to Oxford, Ohio to take on Miami. The match begins at 12 a.m. CT
