DAYTON, Ohio – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team picked up its ninth victory of the season on Sunday morning as the Huskies defeated Wright State, 5-2. 

The Huskies took the doubles points to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Sophomore Bor Schweiger Muzar (Crnomelj, Slovenia/Gimnm) and senior Georg Lundkvist (Linkoping, Sweden/Lindkopings Kommun) took the match at number one, 6-1, over Michal Kianicka and Fernando Nardelli. NIU then clinched the point when freshman Kristopher Ortega (Homer Glen, Ill./Seton Home Study School) and junior Erich Schuette (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Ignatius) finished off a 6-4 win over Javier Alvarez de la Villa and Donovan Cellupica-Towers at number three. 

In the singles, senior Tom Hjertonsson (Gothenburg, Sweden/Akademi Båstad Gymnasium) was dominant in a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Alvarez de la Villa at number five. Muzar brought the Huskies within a point of clinching the victory as he topped Marcel Ueltzhoeffer at number four, 6-2, 6-3. 

NIU secured the victory when Ortega defeated Kianicka, 7-5, 6-0, at number one for his eighth singles dual match victory of the season. 

Schuette won the final point of the day for the Huskies, picking up his first dual match win of the year, with a 6-2, 6-2 win over William Morton at number six. 

Next weekend, NIU will travel to the State of Nebraska for a pair of matches as the Huskies visit Creighton on Friday, March 2, and Nebraska on Saturday, March 3.
