Northern Illinois football is a tight knit family of players, coaches, and support staff all working with great urgency to be the best program in the country. I firmly believe that the Huskie football program can exemplify what a college football team should strive to be on and off the field. Our players are pushed to reach their highest possible level academically, athletically, and socially. We want the growth of our players to be visible and tangible. They will be great leaders in the classroom, on the field, and in our community. The evidence for these statements is measurable. We are the winningest team in the Mid-American Conference since 2001. We have had 11 straight semesters over a 3.0 GPA in the classroom, and we are 9th in the NCAA in APR (Academic Progress Rate). Our student-athletes had over 5,000 hours of community service last year.
Our coaching staff is made of men who motivate, teach, and mentor their players. I know that we are asking a lot from our athletes when they come to play for us, but we also give them everything we have in return. It is a partnership between player and coach, working toward the common goal of being special at what we do. We will personally take pride in the success and failures of our players and do everything we can to help them overcome their greatest adversities.
Northern Illinois is a special place. What makes NIU special are the people that work at the university and live in the community. The passion they exude for our players is unmatched and we as a community all share one standard of excellence. Each player on our team brings a personal skill set that we aim to harness and utilize to help the entire team. The ability to put one's own needs aside for the good of the group is a big part of being a Huskie. At NIU we are our brother's keeper. We hope that you come and see why NIU is the right place for you.
