MAHOMET-SEYMOUR HIGH SCHOOL/PARKLAND COLLEGE:
Redshirted due to injury at Parkland College in 2013 ... Sported a .370 batting average with 14 home runs, 27 doubles, six doubles and 62 RBI in his senior year at Mahomet-Seymour High School ... Was 67-for-70 in stolen base attempts during his senior year ... Carried a .975 fielding percentage during his high school career, splitting time in the infield and outfield.

PERSONAL/MISCELLANEOUS: Plans on majoring in Finance.

COACH MATHEY ON SMITH:
"Alex is one heck of an athlete who comes from a great program at Parkland from Coach Kennedy. He had a good freshman season but unfortunately he ran in to a little bit of an injury bug this year which is unfortunate because we won't see him play this year. On the positive side, it creates a redshirt situation for him so he'll have three years of eligibility left which is a good thing for us. He's a guy who's going to push things in the outfield and we are obviously losing a great athlete in Jamison Wells and Alex is that type of athlete. He can run, he can cover and he can cover."
