But it's not every season you have a young man that brings all three to the diamond every game at Ralph McKinzie Field. The Huskies have one in 2015. His name is Gavin.

The NIU Baseball Podcast returns in 2014 for its second season, talking all things NIU baseball with Head Coach Ed Mathey and assistant media relations director Matt Scheerer. Join Ed and Matt as they discuss the upcoming series with Minnesota, preview the 2014 team and some of the happenings in the program.

2013 SEASON (FRESHMAN):
• Made 24 appearances, with all but one coming in relief
• Didn't allow an earned run in 21 of his 24 appearances
• Opened his Huskie career with a 13.1 inning scoreless streak
• Pitched a scoreless inning and registered his first strikeout in his debut at Texas Tech (Feb. 15)
• Went four strong innings, giving up a lone unearned run and striking out two, at Murray State (March 13)
• Allowed three baserunners and stranded them all versus Kent State (March 24)
• Hurled a perfect 1.1 innings at Central Michigan (April 5)
• Tallied scoreless frames with one strikeout in back-to-back outings at Bradley and at UIC (April 30 and May 1)
• Struckout a season-best three at UW-Milwaukee (May 14)
• Threw 1.2 scoreless innings at Ball State (May 17)

STEVENSON HIGH SCHOOL/LOYOLA ACADEMY:
• Drafted in the 33rd round of MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox (1,011 overall)
• Three-year letterman
• An all-conference selection and North Suburban All-Star game participant
• .386 career batting average in three seasons
• Named team MVP during sophomore year
• Totaled 10 complete games and 150 strikeouts in three seasons
• Batted .511 with 29 RBI, three home runs and 12 doubles during sophomore season at Loyola Academy
• Pitched a complete game at U.S. Cellular Field in the Catholic League Classic
• Held a 9-9 career pitching record in 20 career starts
• Carried a 2.32 ERA during sophomore season
• Led team in RBI senior season (30)
• Won a regional and national championship with summer league baseball teams
• Posted perfect records (5-0 and 2-0) with Top Tier Baseball teams
