The NIU baseball program has had many a great leaders in the dugout. Young men that have led vocally, through character and with their performance on the field. But it's not every season you have a young man that brings all three to the diamond every game at Ralph McKinzie Field. The Huskies have one in 2015. His name is Gavin.

2014 SEASON (SOPHOMORE): • Led Huskies in batting average (.304), on-base percentage (.406) and slugging percentage (.369) • Made 48 total starts (46 at shortstop) in 49 games • Ended the season on 16-game hitting streak, the longest at NIU since 2012 (Jamison Wells, 19 games) • Totaled nine doubles, one triple and 16 RBI with a team-high 29 walks • Turned 27 double plays and 143 assists in the field with .942 fielding percentage • Posted 15 multi-hit games, including a season-best three versus No. 11 Cal Poly (March 13) and Illinois State (April 8) • Drove in a season-high three runs at Eastern Michigan (April 11) • Scored three runs in 15-9 Mid-American Conference opening win versus Buffalo (March 21) • Reached base in all five plate appearances, finishing 3-for-3 with two walks, two doubles, two RBI and a run versus Illinois State (April 8)
2013 SEASON (FRESHMAN): • Played and started in 52 games at shortstop • Secured his first hit as a Huskie in his collegiate debut at Texas Tech (Feb. 15) • Collected a pair of singles and an RBI at Nevada (Feb. 22) • Had statistically the best day of his season at Nevada, going three-for-five with his first home run, four RBIs, and two runs (Feb. 23) • Walked, singled, and stole a bag versus Utah (March 1) • Walked twice at Minnesota (March 3) • Contributed an RBI single and scored at Murray State (March 13) • Smashed his first double at Belmont (March 15) • Recorded an RBI single versus Kent State (March 23) • Walked twice and singled at Central Michigan (April 5) • Tallied three hits and crossed home plate twice at Ohio (April 20) • Walked twice and swiped a base at Toledo (May 4) • Connected on a two-RBI triple and would score at Eastern Michigan (May 12) • Went one-for-four with a run in NIU's MAC Tournament game versus Bowling Green (May 22)
DEKALB HIGH SCHOOL: • Played football, basketball and baseball at DeKalb High School • Two-time all-conference quarterback and point guard • Was baseball team's offensive MVP, first team all-conference and all-area during junior year • Was The Daily Chronicle's 2010-11 Athlete of the Year • Broke school-record for batting average in a season (.513) as a sophomore • Team won conference, regional and sectional championships, advancing to IHSA 3A State Championship game in 2010 • Recorded 15 doubles sophomore year and 30 runs batted in • Hit .466, 49 RBI, eight doubles and four home runs in 2011 • Daily Chronicle first team all-area selection in 2010 • Played with U18 Upper Deck Cougars
