The NIU baseball program has had many a great leaders in the dugout. Young men that have led vocally, through character and with their performance on the field. But it's not every season you have a young man that brings all three to the diamond every game at Ralph McKinzie Field. The Huskies have one in 2015. His name is Gavin.

2014 SEASON (REDSHIRT JUNIOR): Made 14 relief appearances, totaling 14.1 innings Finished the year 0-1 with a 5.65 ERA Registered 4.1 innings in five appearances in Mid-American Conference games, allowing zero hits and runs Totaled 7.0 innings against nationally ranked foes, No. 5 Oregon State and No. 11 Cal Poly (March 7-13) Pitched a season-high 3.0 innings against the Mustangs, striking out one (March 13) Recorded back-to-back shutout appearances versus the Beavers, tossing 1.0 inning in each appearance (March 7, 9) Helped NIU pitching staff to MAC best 2.93 earned run average in conference play
2013 (REDSHIRT SOPHOMORE): Made 25 appearances, all in relief Struck out one in his season debut at Texas Tech (Feb. 15) Pitched a perfect frame at Texas Tech (Feb. 17) Allowed an unearned run at Murray State (March 12) Walked one but stranded that runner at UW-Milwaukee (April 3) Hurled two perfect frames at Ohio, sending a pair of Bobcats down on strikes (April 19) Recorded back-to-back shutout innings at UIC and at Toledo (May 1 and May 3) Limited the Eagles to an unearned run over 1.1 innings versus Eastern Michigan (May 12) Struck out two in a perfect inning in NIU's MAC Tournament game against Buffalo (May 23)
2012 SEASON (REDSHIRT FRESHMAN): Appeared in seven games during the season, four as a pitcher and three as a pinch-runner Hurled 3.2 innings and a 7.36 ERA Did not record a decision Fanned two batters during the year Made collegiate debut versus Ohio, pitching one inning (April 8) Pitched 0.2 scoreless innings at Milwaukee (May 15) and another scoreless inning versus Ball State (May 18) Recorded his first career strikeout versus the Panthers (April 24) Made first appearance as a baserunner at Bradley, scoring the go-ahead run in the seventh inning (April 25) Notched another run versus Ball State (May 17)
FENWICK HIGH SCHOOL: The Fenwick High School captain closed his prep career by hitting .432 with 38 hits, 30 runs, six triples, 24 RBI, and 10 steals in 10 attempts in 31 games as a senior Led the Friars to a regional runner-up finish in 2010 Garnered first team all-conference recognition as an infielder and right-handed pitcher Earned invitation to the 2010 Chicago Catholic League all-star game In 32 games as a junior, hit .308 with 24 hits, 17 runs, three doubles, one triple, 12 RBI and four steals On the mound in 2009, went 3-3 with a 1.80 ERA in 46.6 innings with 42 strikeouts over 10 appearances As a sophomore, hit .417 in 25 games with 33 hits, 25 runs, eight doubles, one triple, 21 RBI and 22 steals Posted a perfect 4-0 record in 33 innings and six games with a 1.91 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 2008 Played four years of football for the Friars, earning varsity letters in each of his last two years
