NIUHuskies.com presents the 2012 baseball season preview with Head Baseball Coach Ed Mathey, now in his 10th season at Northern Illinois. The Huskies return seven starters and two starting pitchers in 2012, along with four All-MAC picks, two all-region and a freshman All-American. To boast, NIU also has a pitcher on the preseason stopper of the year watchlist.

2011: Played and started in 53 contests at center field ... Finished season with a .321 batting average, two home runs, 16 doubles, two triples, 26 RBI, 56 runs scored and 27 stolen bases ... Also notched a .361 on-base percentage and a .429 slugging percentage ... Named to the College Baseball Foundation and Diamond Sports' National All-Star lineup May 27, hitting .667 (14-for-21) with 11 runs, two doubles, one home run, three RBI, .905 slugging percentage, .682 on-base percentage, one walk and four steals ... Received Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week honors same week as well ... Ended season with a 14-game hitting streak; began streak with a .271 average ... Batted safely in 42-of-53 contests ... 22 multi-hit games ... In the field, recorded 155 putouts and four assists ... Tied for Mid-American Conference lead in runs (56) and was second in stolen bases (27) ... Top-10 in the league in doubles and hits ... Contributed a pinch-hit single vs. Northwestern (4/14) ... Drove in a season-high three runs on two hits at Iowa (4/22) ... Torched Eagles pitching for three straight two-hit games vs. Eastern Michigan (5/7-5/9) ... Turned in a three-hit, two-steal performance at Ball State (5/14) ... Registered two hits, two runs, and run batted in vs. Milwaukee (5/18) ... Tallied a two-for-three day at vs. Western Michigan (5/20) ... Posted his fist collegiate triple in the last game of the season vs. Western Michigan (5/22) ... Finished second on the team in stolen bases (12).

High School: Helped Kimberly High School to a state championship in his sophomore year ...
