KENT, Ohio - Northern Illinois picked up where it left off Saturday and claimed an 11-8 victory over Kent State in game two of the three game weekend series. The win improved the Huskies to 17-9 overall and 7-1 in the MAC while retaining the West Division lead and clinching their third consecutive conference series victory ahead of the series finale in Sunday afternoon's nitecap.
The game began Saturday and was suspended by snow with NIU leading 4-1 after one inning of play. Bobby Stevens' RBI single got NIU on the scoreboard before Scott Simon delivered a RBI on a fielder's choice. Jordin Hood then delivered a two-run triple that put the Huskies ahead 4-0.
When the contest was resumed Sunday, KSU put up five runs in the bottom of
the second to move ahead 6-4. The Huskies evened the game in their half of the third behind a RBI double by Danny Reed and a RBI groundout by Hood. KSU answered with two runs of its own in the third to go back ahead 8-6.
From there, the Huskies scored five unanswered runs, scoring two in sixth, one in the seventh, and two in the eighth. In the sixth, Matt Behren scored on an error and Dave Reynolds singled home Pat Minogue to knot the game at eight.
In the next frame, NIU took a 9-8 lead when Simon plated Seykora on a RBI groundout. Seykora doubled home a pair of runs in the eighth to stake the Huskies to a three-run advantage and the wrap up the game scoring.
Mark Badgley (3-2) took over for starter Brandon Copp and went 6.2 innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs while fanning five to earn the win. Matt German pitched a scoreless ninth for his fifth save of the year.
Seykora led the Huskies with a career-high four hits while scoring twice and driving in two. Hood had three RBI on three hits, including two triples, which matched the NIU game record for three-baggers.

-With two triples, Jordin Hood equaled the NIU school record set by Joe Rodriguez on April 24, 1997 and tied by Jake Blair on March 10, 2004.
-Jesse Seykora's four hits topped his previous high of three, set nine times previously and last achieved on March 15, 2007 against Fordham.
-Matt German has won or saved 21 of the last 41 NIU victories in 2006-07.
-NIU has won three consecutive games against Kent State dating back to last season's series finale in DeKalb.
