Final Stats

DeKALB, Ill. – Northern Illinois baseball combined for eight hits against UW-Milwaukee and the bullpen finished the last three innings of the game with four strikeouts, one run and surrendered only two hits in the Huskies 13-2 loss to the Panthers.

“We’re in a pressing mode as hitters and sometimes when you get into that, you try to do too much,” said Head Coach Ed Mathey.  “When you try to do too much, you tend to be a little longer with your swing and you usually are beaten on pitches that don’t normally get by. We need to get back to what we can do. This is a team that when they’re going good, they win some games. We just got to them going.”

UWM (17-20) led from start to finish but were limited early by starting pitcher Tom Barry, who made his first start in over month after sustaining injury. The southpaw hurled 65 pitches (44 for strikes) in four innings with three strikeouts, three runs and zero walks to his credit against the Panthers.

Earning only his second start of his career in the outfield, sophomore Connor Schomig performed superbly as he was 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Huskies in hits. Troy White and Alex Jones scored NIU’s runs in the contest and were driven home by Alex Klonowski and Brett Frantini, respectively, in the sixth inning.

Relief pitchers Kyle Glancy, Kevin Sweeney and Anthony Andres were Northern Illinois’ aces out of the pen as they combined for three innings, one run, four strikeouts and one walk to limit the Panthers. Glancy faced three batters in the seventh inning, fanning two and forcing a flyout for the final out.

The Huskies (11-28) will return to action tomorrow evening for a contest against Bradley, beginning at 6 p.m. The contest will be played at O’Brien field, home of the Chicago Cubs Class A affiliate, the Peoria Chiefs.
