Final Stats

DeKALB, Ill. – For the first time in 59 games, the Northern Illinois baseball team was shutout Sunday afternoon against Central Michigan, falling, 7-0. Central Michigan pitcher Dietrech Enns hurled a three-hit, 118 pitch complete game.

“Enns pitched a heck of a game for Central Michigan and we have to give him credit for his performance,” said Head Coach Ed Mathey after the game. “We gave away some opportunities in the game with runners on base and didn’t help our cause much swinging on the first pitch.”

The Huskies accounted for three hits in the game, one each by Connor Schomig (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South), Jamison Wells (Combined Locks, Wis./Kimberly) and Jeff Zimmerman (Tinley Park, Ill./Victor J Andrew). Schomig broke up Enns no-hitter in the bottom of the sixth inning with his leadoff single, followed by Wells single but Northern Illinois was unable to take advantage of the situation.

Kyle Glancy (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) entered the game in the eighth inning and finished the contest with two shutout innings, surrendering a walk, a hit and striking out two batters. CMU’s Enns hurled all nine innings with seven strikeouts, three walks and three hits. Tony Manville (New Lenox, Ill/Mt. Carmel) took the loss in 4.2 innings pitched, striking out four with four earned runs.

The Huskies were last shutout May 7, 2011 at Eastern Michigan, a 1-0 loss to the Eagles.

Northern Illinois (14-34, 7-14 MAC) will return to the diamond after this week’s final exams for a weekend series at Western Michigan, starting May 11 in Kalamazoo.
