CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference office announced its eight-team bracket for the postseason tournament Sunday evening to see who will represent the MAC at the NCAA Regional. MAC West division champion Northern Illinois (No. 3) will open the tournament in Avon, Ohio against No. 6 seed Bowling Green Wednesday morning at 11:30 a.m. Central time. The tournament will take place at All Pro Freight Stadium.
The Huskies clinched the No. 3 seed Saturday as it defeated Ball State in 10 innings, 6-4, to win NIU's first ever division championship and Northern Illinois' first regular season championship since 1972 (Midwestern Conference). The seeding is the Huskies highest-ever in their seventh MAC Tournament appearance since 2000.
NIU is paired with No. 2 seed Buffalo and No. 7 seed Toledo in their side of the bracket. With a win, the Huskies would face the winner of that matchup Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Central. Should Northern Illinois lose, it would take the field at 8 a.m. Central Thursday morning.
NIU is 7-6 all-time in the MAC Tournament against opponents in this year's field. The Huskies last faced the Falcons in 2011's Mid-American Conference Tournament, eliminating Bowling Green from the tournament, 4-2.
