DeKALB, Ill.
- The Northern Illinois baseball team will play a pair of contests this fall, with the Huskies hosting the Ontario Blue Jays baseball club Saturday, September 14 at Ralph McKinzie Field and continuing the fall Saturday, September 28 at Purdue. NIU will kickoff the fall with a 2 p.m. first pitch against the Blue Jays and will greet first pitch at 4 p.m. at Purdue. All times are Central.

"We decided to do something a little different this year," said Head Coach Ed Mathey, "in years past we've just had our Red & Black Series, where we split our team and scrimmage each other. This year we wanted our guys to see some other competition in the fall and this will be a good test for our guys to face some other players of quality before we start the season in February."

Northern Illinois will play its traditional fall classic, the Red and Black series, beginning October 13 at Ralph McKinzie Field and resuming the 16th and if necessary, the 20th. NIU will also host a scout day October 10 at 2:45 p.m.

The Huskies will begin their fall Saturday with an exhibition against the Jays, an amateur baseball academy program from Mississauga, who're making a week-long tour of the Midwest to take on NIU, along with Iowa, Notre Dame and several other programs. With a history of developing high school aged players, the Blue Jays have had over 100 players move on to play Division I institutions.

Northern Illinois fans can get a double dose of Huskie and Boilermaker action as on Sept. 28 as NIU baseball faces Purdue at 4 p.m. Central, while the football team takes on the Boilermakers at 11 a.m. The Boilermakers won the Big Ten Regular Season and Tournament Championships in 2012, earning the right to host a regional in Gary, Ind. and closing the season with a 45-13 record.
