With Coach Mathey at the helm of Northern Illinois baseball, the Huskies have played or practiced in some of the country's finest baseball facilities, including those used by Major League Baseball teams.
First class amenities have been made available for the Huskies throughout its travels as NIU has had access to the Chicago White Sox Clubhouse at U.S. Cellular Field and the visiting team clubhouse at Camelback Ranch Stadium, the Sox and Dodgers spring training home. The Huskies have also held several practices at the facility over the years, working out at Camelback Ranch and then watching a White Sox practice at the field.
Northern Illinois has also played at the Metrodome within the last two seasons, taking on the Golden Gophers, Pac-12 member Utah and perennial Ivy League Championship contender and NCAA Regional participant Dartmouth.
NIU played Notre Dame at U.S. Cellular Field in 2008 (White Sox), playing in front of 4,600 fans in the Huskies largest attended home game in program history, and took on Wisconsin-Milwaukee at Miller Park (Brewers) in 2010.
The Huskies annually play at at least one minor league ballpark a season, having played at Fifth Third Bank Park (Kane County Cougars), Rent One Park (Southern Illinois Miners), Standard Bank Stadium (Windy City Thunderbolts) and Aviators Stadium (Rockford Aviators) throughout the state of Illinois.
Along with access to facilities, Northern Illinois has access to the top equipment by both Rawlings and adidas. Huskie players are outfitted with Rawlings Gloves and bats, as well as the top of the line apparel, shoes, batting gloves and cleats from adidas.
