D.J. Bakker begins his first season as a graduate assistant with the Northern Illinois men's basketball program.

Bakker is responsible for film breakdown and assists in scouting work.

Bakker came to NIU after working the last three years at Attack Athletics in Chicago. While at Attack, Bakker worked as a player development coach, doing on-court skill development work with high school, college and NBA players. Bakker also directed film sessions while at Attack and assisted with Attack's NBA Pre-Draft training.

In addition, Bakker also spent one season working in the video department with the Chicago Bulls. Bakker's main responsibilities included breaking down film on upcoming opponents, assisting with practice and helping with preparations for the NBA Draft. Bakker also served as an assistant coach for one season at Chicago Hope Academy, helping the Eagles advance to the Sectional Championship game.

The Crown Point, Ind., native graduated from Trinity Christian College in Palo Heights, Ill., in 2009 with a degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing. His family includes his wife, Laura.
