DeKalb, Ill. - The Northern Illinois men's basketball shook off its last pieces of rust in their exhibition finale against Augustana as the host Huskies earned the 77-63 victory over the Vikings at the NIU Convocation Center on Monday night.

NIU senior guard Ryan Paradise (Naperville, Ill. / Central) led four Huskie players in double-figures with a game-high 15 points to go along with five steals.

"Well we were up big for most of the first half," NIU head men's basketball coach Ricardo Patton said.  "The second half we knew they would come out hard.

"In order for us to be a good team, we have to be able to win some games that are not pretty," Patton continued. "You just have to be able to do that.  We are not going to blow teams out either.  You just have to know how to grind it out and win the ballgame."

Senior Michael Hart (Bolingbrook, Ill. / Bolingbrook / Carthage College) added 13 points, six rebounds and a block in 15 minutes of action, while sophomore guard Cody Yelder (Calumet Park, Ill. / Richards) and senior forward Shaun Logan (Eldridge, Iowa / North Scott / Kirkwood C.C.) posted 12 and 10 points respectively. Logan added seven rebounds and five assists, while Yelder chipped in five rebounds, four assists and two steals.

It was a sloppy game on both ends as the Huskies committed 20 turnovers to Augustana's 24. NIU posted 14 points off the Vikings' miscues, while Augustana scored 10 points off the Huskie turnovers.

Augustana junior forward Chandlor Collins came off the bench for the Vikings and posted a team-best 11 points and seven rebounds.

NIU opens the regular-season on Friday, November 9, as they participate in the BTI Tip-Off, hosted by Northern Iowa, and will square off with the host Panthers at 8:15 p.m.
