Northern Illinois vs. Lamar

December 1, 2007

DeKalb, Ill. - Convocation Center

Lamar Head Coach Steve Roccaforte

"I thought their zone gave us some problems.  We did several different things against it and it wasn't very effective.  We got some good looks, we missed some open shots. We've got to drive the ball to the basket more, we've got to post it more.  Their zone had a lot to do with [the number of three pointers taken in the second half].

"I want to give them credit.  They were 0-6, came out and played hard and had a good game plan.

"We're not finishing games right now.  We're not playing well.  I've got some guys I was counting on who are not making shots.

"The officials called a great game.  If they said [the tip] was in time, I believe them.

Northern Illinois Head Coach Ricardo Patton

"I am really proud of our young men.  Our team came together today.  We had superb energy from the bench, our team on the floor really fed off them.  This win should teach us more about ourselves than if we came out and really dominated someone.

"He [Egan Grafel] continued to play until he heard the horn.  That's what we teach our young men.  I was happy to see him do that.  I thought [the shot] was good.

"I believe we're a better team than our record indicated.  We've played a lot of tough opponents, a good schedule, maybe too ambitious.  But that's what we want to do to prepare us for our league schedule.

"In the second half, we played more zone.  In the first half, we didn't, and that was by design.  We planned a zone for the second half.  I thought if it was no more than a 10-point lead, we would bring it out in the second half and they wouldn't have a chance to adjust to it.  That was the difference in the game.

"We could be a good zone team, but I like the aggressiveness of our man to man and we brought some of that to the zone.

"Jeremy Landers played phenomenal defense on the ball.  We got a lot of steals in that one stretch.

"We challenged Logan this week.  That's the Logan I want to see.  Today he showed what kind of player he is.

"When our heads and our hearts are in the right place, we can be successful."

Jeremy Landers

"I tried to bring energy.  That's what they ask of me and I try to bring it every day in practice and tried to bring it to the game today.
