NIU Senior Forward Marcus Smallwood To Return To NIU Lineup On Wednesday

DEKALB, IL -- Northern Illinois senior forward Marcus Smallwood will make his return to the Northern Illinois lineup on Wednesday, when the Huskies host Mid-American Conference West Division rival Bowling Green at the Convocation Center in DeKalb.

Smallwood missed the Huskies' recent road swing through Central Michigan and Toledo for team and individual concerns and returned to the team bench during Saturday's (Feb. 14) contest vs. Ball State.

"Due to team and individual concerns, Marcus did not travel with the team the past two games, and did not dress against Ball State," head coach Rob Judson said. "We have addressed those concerns and are moving forward. Marcus now has another opportunity to be a positive teammate and to have the proper attitude within our program. He is having a fine career here at NIU and we will look forward to having him compete the rest of this year, with a strong contribution to this team and program."

Smallwood leads the team in scoring (14.3 ppg.) and rebounding (9.7 ppg.) and ranks among the MAC's top five in four statistical categories, total rebounding, offensive rebounding, defensive rebounding and blocked shots.

"This was best for the team at the time," Smallwood said. "Obviously, I wish the whole thing never happened, but people make mistakes. This was a great learning opportunity for me. I am being given a second chance. I 'm looking forward to getting back out there on Wednesday and helping this team out any way I can."

The Huskies host Bowling Green at 7:05 p.m. at the Convocation Center. NIU will look to avenge a Jan. 10 loss to the Falcons in Bowling Green, OH. Smallwood scored a season-high tying 22 points in that contest, but the Huskies fell 76-69.
