NORTHERN ILLINOIS MEN'S BASKETBALL HOLDS BANQUET MARCH 24 AT CONVOCATION CENTER
DeKALB, IL - After finishing up the season last week in Cleveland, OH, in the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference, the Northern Illinois University men's basketball will take a few hours to look back on the successful 2002-03 campaign. Sponsored by the DeKalb, Sycamore and Kishwaukee Kiwanis Clubs, NIU will hold its annual men's basketball banquet on March 24 at the Convocation Center.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. with dinner served at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $6 for children (12 and under) and $9 for adults and can be purchased at the NIU ticket office or from any Kiwani. For more information, contact that NIU basketball office at (815) 753-1633.

"We're tremendously proud of the progress that our program has made this year," Huskie head coach Rob Judson said. "The banquet will be great opportunity for us to recognize all the effort and hard work that the players have put in during the season."

The evening will include a postseason wrap-up from coach Judson as well as highlight tape. Kids will receive Northern Illinois men's basketball trading cards and have the chance to play on the court with the Huskies.

Northern Illinois finished the year with a 17-14 mark following a 94-72 loss to Central Michigan, the eventual MAC champion and NCAA Tournament qualifier, in the semifinals of the MAC Tournament. The Huskies won their first postseason games since 1995-96 when they were a member of the Mid-Western Collegiate Conference and advanced the semis of the Mid-Am tournament for the first time since 1981-82.

Junior forward Marcus Smallwood (Elgin) was named First-Team All-MAC while guard P.J. Smith (Maywood / Proviso East) picked up Honorable Mention All-MAC accolades. Rookie guard Todd Peterson (Pekin) was chosen for the MAC All-Freshman team.
