DeKalb, IL - Northern Illinois University men's basketball coach Rob Judson was ecstatic with his fall recruiting class of Darrius Gaters (Chicago / Marshall), Bristan Kelley (Lee's Summit, MO), Mike Lochner (Maple Grove, MN) and Cody Yelder (Oak Lawn / Richards).

Kirkwood Community College power forward Shaun Logan (Eldridge, IA / North Scott / Kirkwood CC) proved to be the icing on the cake for Judson's newcomers, as the Eldridge, IA, native has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Huskies in 2006-07.

Logan, along with Gaters and Kelley, will compete to fill the void left by the departure of graduated senior Todd Peterson. Peterson finished his career with 1,070 points and as NIU's all-time three-point shooter.

"Shaun is a versatile, athletic player who continued to improve and develop every time we saw him play," Judson said. "He has an outstanding attitude and work ethic that will fit with the rest of our team perfectly."

Logan, an athletic 6-foot-7, 215-pound power forward, averaged 13.2 points-per-game and a team-best 7.5 rebounds to help the Eagles to a record of 31-5 and a runner-up finish in the 2006 NJCAA Division II finals. In the championship game against Cecil Community College, Logan scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in a 64-63 defeat. For his efforts, he was named to the All-National Tournament team.

Logan, an All-Region 11 First-Team selection, was equally as impressive on the defensive end, recording 60 steals, good for fourth overall in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference.

"Shaun has worked very hard academically and athletically in preparing himself for the Division I level," Kirkwood Coach Doug Wagemester said. "I think his best basketball is ahead of him.

"If he makes the type of improvement over the next couple of years at Northern Illinois that he did (at Kirkwood), he's going to be a real fine player for them."

With the addition of Logan, NIU will now have seven players in uniform in 2006-07 that stand 6-foot-6 or taller.
