Northern Illinois Releases Complete 2005-06 Men’s Basketball Schedule

2005-06 Men's Basketball Schedule

Cleveland, OH - A pair of contests against Mid-American Conference Tournament Champion Ohio University and six other match-ups against postseason qualifiers highlights another challenging MAC schedule for the Northern Illinois University men’s basketball program, announced Tuesday (Aug. 30) by league commissioner Rick Chryst.

The 18-game MAC slate will see the Huskies face National Invitation Tournament participants Western Michigan and Kent State on two occasions, in addition to home contests against Buffalo and Miami. Last season, the MAC had a record five teams qualify for postseason play, highlighted by Ohio’s run to the NCAA Tournament. Western Michigan and Buffalo both came away victorious in their opening-round NIT match-ups.

The Huskies open MAC competition at defending West Division champion Toledo on Dec. 3, before returning home for back-to-back tilts at the Convocation Center against 2005 East Division winner Miami (Jan. 3) and Buffalo (Jan. 7).

“The Mid-American Conference is as competitive as it has ever been, and night-in and night-out you must play your best basketball or you will fall out of contention quickly,” head coach Rob Judson said. “This season’s schedule has a much better rhythm to it. We will have back-to-back home games four times during the conference season and it is really balanced throughout January and February.”

Huskie fans will enjoy four home weekend contests, beginning with that Jan. 7 contest against Buffalo. Other weekend home dates include Saturday affairs with Kent State (Jan. 21) and Western Michigan (Feb. 4) and a Sunday tilt versus Eastern Michigan (Feb. 26), led by first year head coach Charles Ramsey.

Northern Illinois opens the 2005-06 campaign on Monday, Nov. 14 with an exhibition contest against Benedictine, before traveling to Springfield, MO, to face Missouri Valley power Missouri State (formerly Southwest Missouri State) on Nov. 19.
