DeKalb, Ill. - New Northern Illinois men's basketball coach Ricardo Patton released a rigorous 2007-08 slate for the Huskies on Wednesday that features six teams that advanced to the postseason in 2007, including "Sweet 16" participant Southern Illinois.

There will be no easing into the Mid-American Conference campaign as NIU's 12 non-conference opponents averaged 19.6 wins last season.

"It's an extremely competitive schedule, one that features several teams that made the postseason last year," Patton said. "Teams that I think will prepare our players for a very competitive MAC conference.

"Each year we will continue to try to get as many of the local teams as we possibly can, because I think that's what our fans would enjoy seeing."

The Huskies open the season in Cedar Falls, Iowa, at the three-game BTI Tip-Off Tourney, hosted by Northern Iowa, from Nov. 9-11. The Huskies and host Panthers tip-off the tournament on Nov. 9, followed by contests against 2007 National Invitational Tournament qualifier UMass (Nov. 10) and 2007 Big West Conference runner-up, Cal Poly (Nov. 11).

NIU makes the trek to Carbondale, Ill., on Saturday, Nov. 17 for a 7 p.m. tip-off with the Salukis and continue their Missouri Valley Conference stretch three days later with a road contest against Indiana State (Nov. 20).

The Huskies' home-opener is Sat., Nov. 24, as Stephen F. Austin invades the NIU Convocation Center for a 7 p.m. showdown to begin a three-game homestand that includes Lamar (Dec. 1) and NIT semifinalist Air Force (Dec. 4).

NIU travels to South Bend, Ind., on Dec. 8 to square off with 2007 NCAA Tournament participant Notre Dame before a two-game road trip through the Horizon League with tilts against Loyola (Dec. 15) and UW-Green Bay (Dec. 22).

The Huskies conclude their pre-MAC schedule against Arkansas Little Rock on Dec. 29 in DeKalb, Ill., before opening the conference season against Western Michigan on Jan. 5 in Kalamazoo, Mich.

The MAC home opener for NIU will be on Jan. 13, as they welcome the Toledo Rockets and the Huskies host the Bracket Buster for the second-straight season on February 24.

Men's Basketball season tickets for 13 home games are on sale now for $119 for the general public and $109 for senior citizens.
