Huskie Hoop Time Kicks Off 2004-05 NIU Men's Basketball Season On Oct. 15

DEKALB, IL - Games, prizes, free admission and a sneak preview of your 2004-05 Northern Illinois University men's basketball team and its five newcomers highlight the first annual Huskie Hoop Time, which is scheduled for Oct. 15 at 11:45 p.m. inside the Convocation Center's Victor E. Court.

The first annual "Midnight Madness" event for Northern Illinois, fans can enter the arena through Gate 5 of the Convocation Center and follow the stairs into Victor E. Court.

Ran in conjunction with the National Panhellenic Dance Party (inside the main arena of the Convo) fans will have a chance to meet their favorite Huskies and win great door prizes from Northern Illinois athletics and a number of the event's sponsors.

Festivities are slated to begin just prior to midnight (11:45 p.m.) with the introduction of the 2004-05 Huskies. The team will then go through warm-ups (which will include a dunking exhibition) prior to a team scrimmage.

While Huskie Hoop Time is a free event, the National Panhellenic Dance Party, is not. In order to enter the arena free of charge, fans will need to enter through Gate 5 located on the north end of the Convocation Center. Parking is also free and conveniently located in lot C-3 (northwest corner) of the arena. The National Panhellenic Dance Party is anticipating a crowd of 2,000 students, many of which are expected to attend Huskie Hoop Time. In order to ensure good seating at the event, fans are encouraged to enter Victor E. Court at the scheduled opening time of 11:30 p.m.

"We are fired up for the start of the 2004-05 season and we can't think of a better way to kick off the campaign," head coach Rob Judson said. "We have five new players and a great group of returners so we are excited to start the season in conjunction with homecoming and all its encompassing festivities."

The first full practice for the Northern Illinois men's basketball team is scheduled for Saturday Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. The first exhibition game for NIU is on Monday, Nov. 8, against former Huskie Kenny Battle and his Illinois Institute of Technology squad at 7:05 p.m.
