Northern Illinois Men's Basketball Hoops 4 Troops Campaign Gets Underway This Week

DeKalb, IL - The next phase of "Huskie Hoop Time", the 2004-05 Northern Illinois University men's basketball marketing campaign, hit the NIU campus this week, as the team began selling red silicone bracelets to help promote fan and student ownership with the program for the upcoming season.

A fundraiser being called "Hoops 4 Troops"; all proceeds from the $1 bracelets will go to support the Illinois Military Family Relief Fund. Bracelets have the phrase "Huskie Hoop Time" inscribed in them and can be purchased at various locations around campus and at all upcoming NIU men's basketball games. Currently, the bracelets are being sold at Barsema Hall, with future selling sites including DuSable Hall, the Holmes Student Center and the residents halls.

Signed into law in 2003 by Governor Rod R. Blagojevich, the Illinois Military Family Relief Fund provides monetary grants to families of Illinois National Guard members and Illinois residents serving in the U.S. Armed Forces Reserve components who were called to active duty as a result of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The "Hoops 4 Troops" campaign is being spearheaded by Northern Illinois marketing students Robert Heck and Randi Seaver. Heck and Seaver, along with NIU Marketing Professor Kim Judson have raised funds for the purchase of the bracelets, allowing all generated revenue to go directly to the Illinois Military Family Relief Fund.
