DeKalb, Ill. - First-year NIU head men's basketball coach Ricardo Patton knows that his squad is itching for competition against opponents in different jerseys.
The secret is...so is he.
Patton and the Huskies welcome the Aurora Spartans to the NIU Convocation Center for a 7 p.m. (CST) exhibition contest on Friday (Nov. 1) night in the former Colorado head coach's debut on the Northern Illinois sideline.
"I'm excited to get started," Patton said. "I know the guys are raring to go.
"We'd like to have a little more time to put a few more things in," Patton continued. "The players I think are excited to play against someone other than themselves."
NIU senior guard Ryan Paradise (Naperville, Ill. / Central) is the leading returning scorer for the Huskies, as he averaged 10.1 points-per-game in 2006-07, while leading the squad in three-point shooting percentage (42.5%).
Beating Aurora will be no easy task as the Spartans finished last season ranked 22nd in the country with a record of 25-3. Leading the charge for Aurora is senior forward and 2007 Division III Third Team All-American Larry Welton, who averaged 20 points-per-game last year.
Season tickets for men's basketball ($119) and women's basketball ($50) are available through the NIU Ticket Office at (815) 752-6800, and can be ordered online at www.niuhuskies.com.
