Anderson Named to Great Alaska Shootout All-Tournament Team
Nov. 30, 2008
ANCHORAGE, Ala. - After averaging 18.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game in the Huskies' three contests during the 2008 Great Alaska Shootout, sophomore guard Darion "Jake" Anderson was named to the all-tournament team following Saturday's championship game between Hampton and San Diego State. Anderson hit seven three-pointers in the tournament, and was 17-of-22 (.733) from the free throw line, nearly 17 percent higher (.567) than his season average heading into the Great Alaska Shootout. His 15 defensive rebounds, nine assists and six steals were all team-best marks in the four-day event. In Wednesday's loss against 2008 Big Sky Conference regular-season and tournament champion Portland State; Anderson missed his first double-double of the season by just one rebound, scoring a team-high 16 points to go along with nine caroms. He scored the Huskies' first seven points, and 10-of the first 12, to hold off a hot-shooting Viking team in the game's early stages. In Friday's come-from-behind victory over host Alaska Anchorage, Anderson torched the Seawolves for 25 points, with an 8-for-10 effort from the free throw line. He had the hot hand again early on, scoring nine quick points off three-consecutive three-point field goals. Anderson also had five rebounds and two steals in a team-high 32 minutes. Against Western Carolina, for the third-straight game, Anderson led the Huskies in scoring, pouring in 15 points to go along with his four rebounds and five assists. He had another efficient performance from the charity stripe, going 8-for-10, and also dished out five assists and corralled four rebounds before fouling out with eight seconds remaining in the game. NIU will complete its four-game road swing by playing at Air Force on Wednesday (Dec. 3). Tip-off from Clune Arena is set for 8 p.m. CST.
