2008: Played in 11 games, starting in the Independence Bowl against Louisiana Tech (12-28). Ranked second on the team among defensive ends with 22 tackles, including 16 solo stops. Totaled three tackles for loss, including two sacks. Co-led the team with two fumble recoveries, both against Toledo (10-18), earning team defensive lineman of the week honors. Also had three tackles, with one sack, in that game. Broke up two passes, second-most among defensive lineman. Tallied a career-high six tackles, five solo, versus Navy (11-25). Made three tackles, with one for loss, against Central Michigan (11-12). Totaled two tackles, with one sack for a loss of nine yards, versus Louisiana Tech. Recorded three tackles, with two solo, and recovered a fumble at Kent State (11-18). Had one tackle and one pass break-up against both Eastern Michigan (9-27) and Tennessee (10-4).

2007: Played the first four games of the season before injuring his foot and undergoing surgery which forced him to sit out the remainder of the year. In addition to moving up to a second-team defensive end spot, saw action on the punt coverage unit. Made nine tackles on the year. Totaled a career-high four stops vs. Eastern Michigan (9-15). On the field for 40 snaps and registered three tackles, two solo, at Idaho (9-22).

2006: Redshirted.

High School: First team All-Upstate Illini South Conference and first team all-area during his senior season. Team captain as tight end, linebacker and defensive end for 11-3 squad that reached state's elite eight during his senior year. Totaled 22 catches for 508 yards at tight end. Honorable mention all-conference selection on 9-3 playoff qualifier as a junior. Three-sport athlete also competed in basketball and baseball. Led the Cardinal in sacks and fumble recoveries.

Personal: Born Aug. 9, 1984. Sociology major and a history minor. Enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps out of high school and advanced to the rank of corporal. Served two tours in the Middle East. Played football at Camp Pendleton, San Diego, where he was named the 2005 Mike Anderson Defensive Player of the Year. Parents are Timothy and Victoria Coffman. Aspires to pursue a career in government. Admirer of Mike Singletary and Brian Urlacher.
