2011: Played in all 14 games as a reserve tight end and on special teams... Started against Army (9-3) and Cal Poly (9-24) in the Huskies' two tight end set... Did not catch any passes during the year, but was effective as a blocking tight end on running plays... Recorded his lone tackle of the season at Central Michigan (10-1).
2010: Appeared in all 14 games while backing up at both offensive tackle spots in 2010. Saw action on PAT/FG unit in addition to tackle. Member of the offensive line that paved the way for the Huskies' record-setting 2010 offense. The Huskies averaged 260.4 rushing yards and 450 yards of total offense per game to lead the MAC. The NIU offensive line allowed the fewest sacks in the league with 13 in 14 games. Member of the offensive line that paved the way for Chad Spann's 223 yard rushing night at Minnesota (9-25). The NIU offense tallied 646 yards of total offense, tied for the fourth-most in history, at Eastern Michigan (11-26) with 544 rushing yards the second highest total all-time. Veteran on the offensive line who served as leader of the second unit, which saw considerable playing time late in blowout wins.
2009: Started the first 11 games of the season at right tackle before suffering a foot injury at Ohio which required surgery. Named the Huskies' offensive lineman of the week versus Idaho (9-12). Helped NIU rank tied for seventh in the nation in red zone offense as the Huskies scored on 44-of-47 trips inside its opponents' 20-yard line with 27 touchdowns and 17 field goals. NIU offense led the MAC and ranked 19th nationally in rushing with 195.15 yards per game, including a season-best 418 versus Eastern Michigan (11-5). Huskies allowed only 15 sacks on the year, the fewest in the league.
2008: Made his Huskie debut in the Indiana State game (9-20) as a back-up offensive lineman.
High School: Named to the Missouri Top 30 by rivals.com, coming in with a No. 22 ranking. An honorable mention All-Metro choice as a senior. Earned first team all-conference honors in 2006 and was a second team all-league selection his junior year. Helped lead St. Dominic to back-to-back Archdiocese Athletic Association championships. Also played tight end where he compiled 311 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 29 catches. Caught 12 passes for 111 yards his senior season and made 17 grabs his junior year. Four-year letterwinner. Owns the St. Dominic school record for career rebounds and is third in career points. Nominated for the McDonald's All-American team in basketball, qualifying him as one of the top 1,500 players in the country. Two-time all-conference honoree and All-Metro selection in basketball. Also a state qualifier in the shot put and won the conference title in the discus his junior year in track and field.
Personal: Born July 25, 1988. Son of Dianne and Mark Kiel. Uncle Marvin Kiel played baseball at Murray State. Huskie Scholar with a 3.24 GPA. Earned his undergraduate degree in organizational management in the spring and is doing post-bachelor's work in that field. Enjoys fishing and golf. One of the Huskies' leaders in community service and served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee board. Honored at the 2011 Allstate Sugar Bowl as one of 22 members of the 2010 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
