2012: Totaled 17 tackles in 13 games. Recorded nine of his 17 tackles on the year in the month of October. Saw most of his snaps on special teams. Posted at least one stop in seven consecutive games beginning with Ball State (10-6). Made at least one tackle in nine games. Tied a career-high with four tackles against Buffalo (10-6). Finished the regular season with three tackles at Eastern Michigan (11-23). Named NIU's co-Special Teams Player of the Week following the Ball State (10-6) game, where he notched two solo tackles. Also registered two stops at Akron (10-20) and against UMass (11-3).

2011: Saw action in all 14 games, playing primarily on the Huskies' kickoff coverage and kick return units. Tallied 14 tackles on special teams. Made a career-high four stops against Army (9-3). Posted three other multi-tackle games during the season with two stops in the Western Michigan (10-15), Toledo (11-1) and Ball State (11-15) contests. Forced a fumble on a kickoff return against Ball State. Added solo tackles against Kansas (9-10), Buffalo (10-22) and Eastern Michigan (11-25).

2010: Redshirted his true freshman season at NIU. Selected as one of the Huskies' work team players of the week versus Buffalo (10-16) and Ball State (11-20).

High School: A 2009 first team Illinois High School Football Coaches Association 5A All-State and Chicago Tribune All-State special mention honoree. The 2009 Daily Chronicle Player of the Year and Walter Payton Roundhouse Conference Player of the Year. Named Western Sun Conference Offensive Most Valuable Player and Sycamore MVP as a senior. A three-year all-conference honoree in the Western Sun Conference at three positions; defensive back, kick returner and running back. Second-leading rusher in Sycamore history. Rushed for 1,792 yards and 17 touchdowns during the 2009 campaign. Totaled 136 yards on 19 carries with two scores in the state quarterfinal game. Carried the ball 22 times and gained 174 yards in Sycamore's playoff win over Kaneland. Led the Spartans to the state quarterfinals for the first time since 1978. Named to the Academic All-State team and qualified for membership in the National Honor Society.

Personal: Born Sept. 14, 1991 in Deerfield, Ill. Son of Peggy and Marcus Hayes. Father played football at Trinity College. An industrial and systems engineering major.
