Huskies defeat Eagles to win MAC West

Tallied 117 tackles, 13 pass breakups and five interceptions in three seasons with the Huskies.

2011: Started all 13 games he played at cornerback. Did not play in the Kansas (9-10) game due to injury. Ranked fourth on the team and second among NIU defensive backs with 78 tackles. Led the Huskies with nine pass breakups. Tied for the team lead and was ninth in the MAC with three interceptions. Recorded five or more tackles in nine of the 13 games he played. Paced the Huskie defense with eight tackles - all solo stops - against Arkansas State (1-8), in addition to intercepting a pass to set up NIU's fourth touchdown. Tied a career-high with 10 tackles and made a key interception at Buffalo (10-22) to take Defensive Skill Player of the Week honors. Broke up a season-high two passes versus Ohio (12-2) in the MAC Championship game. Also named the Defensive Skill Player of the Week after tallying nine stops versus Eastern Michigan (11-25). Grabbed a critical interception late in the first quarter against Army (9-3) that led to an NIU touchdown. Set a new career-best with 10 tackles against Wisconsin (9-17). Had eight tackles, including one for a loss, and broke up two passes versus Western Michigan (10-15). Recorded one pass breakup in the Cal Poly (9-24), Bowling Green (11-8) and Ball State (11-15) games.

2010: Played in all 14 games at cornerback and started the Illinois (9-18) and Western Michigan (10-30) contests. Tied for eighth on the team in tackles with 39 with 24 solo stops and 15 assists. Tallied one tackle for loss, collected the first two interceptions of his career and broke up four passes. Ranked third on the team in INTs and fourth in interceptions. Earned NIU defensive back of the week honors with a career-high seven solo tackles against Illinois (9-18). Named NIU Special Teams Player of the Week after posting five tackles, several on special teams, and breaking up a pass against North Dakota (9-11). Picked off his first career pass at Western Michigan (10-30) with a grab at the sideline, and added four tackles and a pass break-up. Credited with three tackles, including one for a loss, at Akron (10-2). Tallied five tackles, three solo, against Buffalo (10-16). Recorded an interception and two solo tackles against Toledo (11-9). Made five stops with three solo at Eastern Michigan (11-26). In on three tackles and made two solo stops against Miami (Ohio) in the 2010 MAC Championship game (12-3). Tallied two tackles versus Fresno State in the 2010 Humanitarian Bowl (12-18).

2009: Saw action in two games at cornerback. Registered time in games against Western Illinois (9-12) and Eastern Michigan (11-5). After coming to NIU as a walk-on, was awarded a scholarship during spring 2010.

2008: Redshirted.

High School: Named first team Central Suburban League South and first team Lake County News Sun as a wide receiver. Had 58 catches for 585 yards his senior year with a long gain of 74 yards. As a defensive back, made 70 tackles. Totaled eight interceptions with three returned for touchdowns. Also lettered in basketball as the team captain and two-year varsity starter.

Personal: Born October 2, 1989 in Waukegan, Ill. Son of James Melvin and Angela Webb. Majoring in sociology with hopes of becoming a homicide detective. Admires Muhammad Ali and Deion Sanders.
