NIU defeats Ball State, 41-38, in a thriller

In 40 games over the last three seasons, has 121 tackles with 59 solo. Accumulated 15.5 sacks for minus 117 yards and 29 tackles for losses totaling 147 yards. Forced three fumbles and recovered three in 34 starting assignments.

2011: A second team All Mid-American Conference selection at defensive end. Named the NIU Defensive Lineman of the Year by the coaching staff. Paced all Huskie defensive linemen with 52 tackles, while tying for the team lead with 5.5 sacks. Totaled 11 tackles for loss to rank third on the team. Also led the NIU defense with nine quarterback hurries. Played in 13 games, seeing action in all but the bowl game. Recorded at least one tackle for loss in seven games and had multiple TFLs in four games. Made at least two stops in 12 of the 13 games he played. Tallied a career-high 10 tackles at Kansas (9-10), in addition to a tackle for loss and a half sack . Named the NIU Defensive Lineman of the Week following the Kansas game. Registered a six-tackle performance against Kent State (10-8) that included a career-best 2.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. His first sack against the Golden Flashes resulted in a fumble, forcing KSU to punt. Recorded a 10-yard sack against Eastern Michigan (11-25) that knocked the Eagles out of Huskie territory on EMU's final drive, forcing them to throw a desperation Hail Mary on the final play. Also recorded a safety with a tackle for loss in the endzone in the second quarter versus EMU and earned MAC West Defensive Player of the Week honors. Had seven tackles and a season-high four quarterback hurries against Ohio (12-2) in the MAC Championship game. Notched one sack each against Central Michigan (10-1) and Western Michigan (10-15). Put pressure on the quarterback at Bowling Green (11-8), as evidenced by his three hurries.

2010: NIU starter at right defensive end in all 14 games. Ranked second on the team with 10 tackles for loss and third in sacks with four, while leading the team in quarterback hurries with six. Tied for eighth in tackles with 39. A first-team All Mid-American Conference selection by league coaches and Phil Steele's Magazine. Named NIU's Defensive Lineman of the Year by coaches and teammates. Had at least one tackle in every game during the year and a tackle for loss in 10 of 14 contests. Credited with a career-high eight tackles, with half a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss, against Illinois (9-18) to earn Defensive Lineman of the Game honor. Made two tackles and recorded his first sack of the season in the opener at Iowa State (9-2). Tallied a pair of quarterback sacks for minus 20 yards versus Toledo (11-9) to go with three tackles. Totaled two stops and half a sack versus Fresno State in the 2010 Humanitarian Bowl (12-18). Credited with four quarterback hurries, broke up a pass and earned a tackle for loss versus Miami (Ohio) in the MAC Championship game (12-3). Recovered a fumble and collected a tackle for loss with two solo stops at Eastern Michigan (11-26). Made three tackles versus North Dakota (9-11), Minnesota (9-25), Central Michigan (10-23), Western Michigan (10-30) and Ball State (11-20) and had tackles for loss in all of those games except ND.

2009: As a redshirt freshman, ranked second on the team in quarterback sacks with six and in tackles for loss with eight. Totaled 30 tackles on the season with 18 solo. Made three tackles, had one-and-a-half sacks and forced a fumble against Ball State (11-12). His forced fumble against Ball State resulted in the Huskies' first safety since Sept. 27, 2008. Had a career-high five tackles versus Central Michigan (11-27). Tallied two tackles and was in on a sack versus Eastern Michigan (11-5). Made one tackle and added a quarterback sack against South Florida in the International Bowl (1-3). Credited with three tackles and a sack versus Miami (10-24). Started his first career game versus Idaho (9-26) and finished the game with three tackles and a sack. Recovered fumbles versus Western Illinois (9-12) and on the game-ending play at Purdue (9-19). Tallied at least on tackle in each game, with tackles for loss against Western Illinois, Idaho, Miami, Eastern Michigan, Ball State and South Florida.

2008: Redshirted. Named team's defensive work team player of the year.

High School: Defensive end was a three-time all-conference honoree who earned all-state accolades as a senior and all-area notice as a junior. Twice named his team's most valuable defensive player. Totaled 40 sacks and forced 12 fumbles in three seasons. Had 36 tackles in both his junior and senior seasons. Recorded 56 stops as a sophomore to go with six pass deflections. Also played tight end and fullback. Helped Glenbrook South to three IHSA playoff appearances. Titans totaled 32 wins in his four seasons.

Personal: Born June 7, 1990 in Park Ridge, Ill. Son of Janet Progar and Cleveland Jackson, Jr. Sociology major. Admires Shaquille O'Neal and Michael Strahan.
