NIU arrives in Miami

The Huskies arrive in Miami

2011: Saw action in 13 games on special teams and as a reserve defensive end. Did not play at Buffalo (10-22). Recorded his lone tackle of the year against Arkansas State (1-8) on a kickoff. Named Offensive Work Team Player of the Week after the Toledo (11-1) game.

2010: Credited with eight tackles, five solo, in 11 games in his first career action. Played primarily on kickoff and punt coverage units and took some defensive snaps at linebacker. Made his NIU debut in third game of year at Illinois (9-25). Made first career tackle, a solo stop, versus Buffalo (10-16). Tallied a pair of solo tackles in the Eastern Michigan game (11-26) when he also played linebacker. Had a pair of assisted tackles versus Toledo (11-9) and totaled two stops, one solo, at Ball State (11-20). Credited with one solo tackle in the Humanitarian Bowl win over Fresno State (12-18).

2009: Redshirted

High School: Played in the East-West Shrine Game. Earned first team all-state recognition his senior year. Garnered first team all-conference and all-area accolades in each of his final two seasons. Named co-City Conference Most Valuable Player. During his last prep season, totaled 135 tackles with five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, 10 pass break-ups and one interception. Totaled 110 tackles with four forced fumbles and six recovered, 12 pass deflections and four interceptions as a junior. Made 85 stops to go with two fumbles forced, three recoveries and four pass break-ups his sophomore year. Helped his team to back-to-back conference titles in each of his last two seasons. South Division advanced to the second round of the state playoffs for the first time in school history his senior year. Also competed in track and field.

Personal: Born February 26, 1991 in Ethel, Miss. Son of Aletha and Chris Rainey. Majoring in sociology. Volunteers as a church musician and reads books to children at day care centers. Admires LeBron James.
