Yet, for Northern Illinois' specialists, the term takes on a slightly different meaning. For them, consistency also means having three highly-experienced individuals handling three underappreciated jobs.

2012: Redshirted as a true freshman.

High School: Earned second team all-conference honors as a senior while playing tight end, linebacker and long snapper. Caught four passes for 49 yards and one touchdown. Forced five fumbles, recovered three fumbles, broke up four passes and grabbed two interceptions in 2011. Helped XHS to an Eastern Valley Conference title each of his three seasons. Voted by his teammates as the athlete with the hardest work ethic as a senior. Ranked as one of the nation's best long snappers by the Kohl's Long-Snapping Camp.

Personal: Born Aug. 31, 1993, in Appleton, Wis. Son of Phil and Victoria Ramlet. Communications studies major. Grandfather played at South Dakota State and brother plays for Minnesota.
