2008: An All-MAC second team selection by both the conference and Phil Steele's Magazine, and honored as NIU's special teams MVP. Led the MAC with 16 touchbacks and a 64.9 yards/kickoff average. Earned MAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors after booting the game-winning 30-yard field goal with 11.9 seconds left against Bowling Green (10-25). Made 3-of-4 field goals versus the Falcons, including a career-long 52-yarder that tied the school record for the longest field goal. Hit a 25-yard field goal with 19 seconds left in regulation to send the CMU game (11-12) to overtime. Named the Huskies' special teams player of the week on Nov. 12 after that performance. Ranked third in the MAC and tied for 22nd nationally with 1.38 field goals made per game. Ranked ninth in the league in scoring, averaging 6.8 points per game. Hit 18-of-24 field goals and all 34 of his PAT tries to lead the Huskies in scoring with 88 points. Hit at least one field goal in nine of NIU's 13 games. Tied for fourth on NIU's single season list for field goals made with 18 and tied for fifth in attempts with 24. Posted his third three-field goal game of the season versus CMU. Also kicked two perfect onside kicks versus the Chippewas which NIU recovered, spurring the Huskies' comeback. Provided all of NIU's scoring versus Tennessee (10-4) with field goals of 25, 24 and 25 yards. Made two field goals in each of the Huskies' first three games, including a 49-yarder versus Minnesota (8-30). Scored a season-high 12 points versus Indiana State with two field goals and six PATs. Hit a 20-yard field goal to bring the Huskies within a touchdown at the Independence Bowl against Louisiana Tech (12-28). Punted six times with an average of 31 yards per kick, with one touchback and two inside the 20.

2007: Sat out due to NCAA transfer regulations.

Before NIU: Played for Winona State from 2005-06. Made 79-of-81 extra points during his WSU his career. Made 24-of-36 field goals. Member of the Daktronics All-Northwest Region Second Team and Don Hansen's Football Gazette Northwest Region first team as a freshman. Earned Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference first team accolades as a kicker and punter. Received notice as a first team Northwest Region punter and second team Northwest Region kicker from Don Hansen's Football Gazette. Earned first team all-region honors from D2Football.com. Holds the Winona State records for most field goals in a season, most field goals in a game and most extra points made in a row.

High School: Consensus all-area kicker as a senior earned Associated Press and Chicago Tribune all-state accolades. Helped his team to an eighth place finish in the state as a senior. Made 9-of-12 field goals and 28-of-30 extra points his senior season while averaging 41 yards per punt. Hit 9-of-9 field goals and 12-of-13 extra points as a junior. Received all-conference second team notice as a junior.

Personal: Born Dec. 21, 1986 in Orland Park, Ill. Son of Rose and Mike Salerno. Enjoys cards and outdoor activities. Majoring in biological sciences. Huskie Scholar holds a 3.175 GPA. Younger brother Ryan is a newcomer to the Huskies.
