High School: Named conference MVP and first-team all-conference following his senior season at Belvidere North High School. Team captain who recorded 81 tackles and rushed 122 times for 1,246 yards in 2011. Named first team all-conference following his junior year after recording 66.5 tackles on defense. Also rushed for 1,688 yards on 158 carries during the 2010 season for the Blue Thunder. Tallied 78 tackles as a sophomore to earn all-conference honorable mention recognition. Helped BNHS advance to the state quarterfinals in 2009. Set career record for the top rushing average in conference history, averaging 186 yards per game. His 225.5 career tackles ranks first in school history. Gained 3,500 yards of total offense in his career at BNHS.

Personal: Born Feb. 1, 1994, in Rockford, Ill. Son of Dan Smaha and Debra Hyser. Plans on majoring in broadcast communication. An active volunteer in the Belvidere area. Enjoys fishing.
