Marc Webel is in his second season as a graduate assistant coach at Northern Illinois, but has been working with head coach Jerry Kill since 2001. Webel, who will work primarily with offensive coordinator Matt Limegrover and the offensive line again this year, played center and guard on Kill's 2001-03 Southern Illinois teams. For the 2004-05 seasons, Webel served as a volunteer assistant coach at SIU, where he was responsible for running practice drills, breaking down video and assisting with daily operations of practice. During those seasons, Webel was also an academic advisor for the student-athletes, a role in which he monitored student academic performance and provided tutoring for students in need. After graduating magna cum laude from SIU with a bachelor's degree in education, Webel pursued his master's degree in Carbondale while working as a graduate assistant with the football team. As the assistant to the offensive coordinator, Webel broke down film of the Salukis and their opponents and created scouting reports on both, all while continuing his academic advising duties and helping with recruiting. Webel is currently pursuing his master's degree in sport studies from SIU, with an anticipated graduation in summer 2009. The Cropsey, Ill. native is married to the former Amber Britton. |
