***Northern Illinois defeated a team from the Big Ten Conference for the first time in 19 tries, dating back to Sept. 17, 1988 when the Huskies claimed a 19-17 win over Wisconsin in Madison. The Huskies are now 2-32-1 all-time versus the Big Ten.
***Northern Illinois claimed its first win over a BCS conference team since 2003, when the Huskies defeated Iowa State, Alabama and Maryland.
***NIU head coach Jerry Kill won his second straight game over a Big Ten team in the state of Indiana. In 2006 as the coach of Southern Illinois, Kill's Saluki team defeated Indiana.
***Tailback Me'co Brown recorded his best career rushing game with 150 yards on 26 carries, establishing career highs in both categories. It was the highest total by a Huskie running back since Oct. 6, 2007 when Justin Anderson went for 157 yards against Temple. Brown tallied his second consecutive 100-yard game and the fourth of his Huskie career.
***For the second straight week, Me'co Brown recorded his career long rush (and the longest rush for the Huskies since 2006) with a 67-yard touchdown run.
***Chad Spann continued his scoring outburst this season with two more rushing touchdowns, giving him seven TDs in 2009 (on six rushes and one reception). The junior finished last year as the Huskies' leading touchdown scorer with eight. He entered Saturday's game tied for first in the country in TDs. Spann's 80-yard total was also his season high and two yards off of his career best of 82 yards (vs. Toledo, 2008).
***In front of hundreds of friends and family from his hometown of Bluffton, Ind., Chandler Harnish totaled his top statistical game of the year with 174 passing and 35 rushing yards. Harnish completed 15-of-26 passes for 174 yards (tying his season best) and a touchdown pass and was sacked just one time, while earning 35 yards on 11 carries on the ground.
***Senior wide receiver Marcus Lewis
established a new career high for receiving yards in a game with 49 (on four catches). Lewis caught just one pass a year ago. He has already tied his career high for most receptions and most receiving yards in a season with six for 68 so far in 2009.
***Safety Tracy Wilson led NIU in tackles for the third straight game as he totaled eight stops in the game, including a tackle for loss.
***Senior Preston Williams earned his first career start Saturday.
***Fullback Kyle Skarb had a career long reception with a 41-yard play in the fourth quarter.
***Mike Salerno, who punted for the first time this year in the Purdue game, saw his streak of 10 straight field goals made snapped in the fourth quarter when he missed a 25-yard attempt wide right. Salerno had not missed a field goal try since the Bowling Green game in 2008, including four of four in 2009.
***Chandler Harnish threw his first interception of the year on a tipped pass in the first quarter.
***Northern Illinois 454 yards of total offense was its highest total since the 2007 Kent State game and the highest of the Jerry Kill era.
***NIU gave up a punt return touchdown, the first one it has surrendered since Oct. 11, 2008 when Miami's Eugene Harris brought one back 63 yards.
