Northern Illinois Postgame Notes

***Northern Illinois won its 13th consecutive game at Huskie Stadium, dating back to Sept. 26, 2009. One win away from the all-time mark of 14 from 1988-91.

***Northern Illinois won its 10th-consecutive Mid-American Conference home game, dating back to Nov. 12, 2008.

***Chandler Harnish recorded a career-best 229 yards Saturday, his seventh career 100-yard rushing day, and his second 100-yard day of 2011. His 432 yards of total offense was the second-highest in his career and this season. His career-high was 462 yards (370 passing, 95 rushing) against Central Michigan Oct. 1, 2011.

***Chandler Harnish is the first player in the MAC this season to rush for over 200 yards and his 229 rushing yards is the most by an FBS quarterback to date in 2011 (entering this weekend).  Harnish and Michigan's Denard Robinson are the only two QBs to go over the 200-yard mark.

***Chandler Harnish performance marks only the 11th-time in NCAA FBS history that a quarterback has rushed and thrown for over 200 yards in the same game. The last quarterback to do so was Denard Robinson of Michigan in 2010 (twice). Below is the complete list from the NCAA Record Book:

A QUARTERBACK GAINING 200 YARDS RUSHING AND 200 YARDS PASSING - Single Game
Reds Bagnell, Penn vs. Dartmouth, Oct. 14, 1950 (214 rushing, 276 passing); Steve Gage, Tulsa vs. New Mexico,Nov. 8, 1986 (212 rushing, 209 passing); Brian Mitchell, La.-Lafayette vs. Colorado St., Nov. 21, 1987 (271 rushing,205 passing); Marques Tuiasosopo, Washington vs. Stanford, Oct. 30, 1999 (207 rushing, 302 passing);Antwaan Randle El, Indiana vs. Minnesota, Oct. 21, 2000 (210 rushing, 263 passing); Brad Smith, Missouri vs. Nebraska, Oct. 22, 2005 (246 rushing, 234 passing); Vince Young, Texas vs. Oklahoma St., Oct. 29, 2005 (267 rushing, 239 passing); Patrick White, West Virginia vs. Pittsburgh, Nov. 16, 2006 (220 rushing, 204 passing);Denard Robinson, Michigan vs. Notre Dame, Sept. 11, 2010 (258 rushing, 244 passing); Denard Robinson, Michigan vs. Indiana, Oct. 2, 2010 (217 rushing, 277 passing)

***It is the fifth 200-yard rushing performance by a Huskie quarterback and the third-best. Stacey Robinson (1989-90) ran for 200-plus yards three times and Marshall Taylor (1985-88) also ran for over 200 as well. Robinson owns the quarterback rushing record with 308 yards against Fresno State in 1990.

***Harnish (229 yards) and Jordan Lynch (113 yards) combined for 342 yards, the second-best rushing effort for an NIU duo ever. Charles Talley and Scott Florence set the school record with 357 yards against UNLV in 1995. Northern Illinois had two players rush for more than 100 yards for the second-time this year.

***Northern Illinois' 697 yards of offense ranks as the eight-most in the NCAA FBS this season and the highest by a MAC school this season.

***The 697 yards is the second-most in school-history and the most since gaining 806 against Fresno State Oct. 6, 1990.

***The 494 rushing yards recorded by NIU today was the third-most by an NCAA FBS team this season and the most by a MAC team heading into today.

***NIU had two quarterbacks rush for over 100 yards apiece for the first-time in school-history.

***The Huskies rushed 54 times for 494-yards, the fourth most in school-history, and the most since Northern Illinois recorded 474-yards against Ball State Oct. 20, 1973.

***Western Michigan's second quarter safety marked the first two-pointer for a NIU opponent since Nov. 11, 2010 against Toledo last season.

***The 51 points by Northern Illinois was the seventh-most scored by the Huskies in a Mid-American Conference game. NIU scored 52 points against Akron in 2000.

***Nathan Palmer's 58-yard catch and run tied for the longest pass play by the Huskies this year and tied his longest reception of 2010.

***Mathew Sims made three field goals to bring his season total to 13. Will three field conversions, Sims will tie for the 10th-most made by an NIU kicker in a season.

***Demetrius Stone made his first career interception.

***Six 40-plus scoring games equals last year's total (6)

***Jordan Lynch's 66 yard touchdown run is the longest of the season by a Huskie runner

***Northern Illinois broke up 10 passes against Western Michigan today, three shy of the all-time mark of 13 set against Louisiana Tech in 1995.
