Northern Illinois won its third straight game to improve to 5-3 on the season. NIU is now 3-1 in Mid-American Conference play.
The Huskies have won 10 of their last 11 regular season games versus MAC East opponents.
NIU defeated Buffalo for the seventh straight time.
The Huskies won on the road for the first time this season.
Northern Illinois played a one-point game for the first time since Oct. 17, 2009 when NIU fell to Toledo, 20-19 in a contest when extra points also factored heavily in the final result. The Huskies last one-point victory came on Sept. 11, 2004 with a 23-22 home win over Southern Illinois.
NIU quarterback Chandler Harnish claimed another NIU career passing record with his fourth completion of the day Saturday. Harnish broke the school record for pass completions previously held by Huskie great George Bork (1960-63). Bork completed 577 passes during his career. Harnish now has (574 + today) career completions, including (124 + today) in 2011.
Senior fullback Pat McAvoy enjoyed his most productive day as a Huskie as he started his first career game and caught his first career pass with a 12-yard reception on fourth-and-two to keep NIU's first touchdown drive alive.
Redshirt freshman safety Dechane Durante picked off the first pass of his Huskie career.
NIU recovered three fumbles and picked off a pair of passes, the most turnovers forced by the Huskie defense this season. Two of the fumbles came on muffed punts.
Tailback Jasmin Hopkins scored three more rushing touchdowns Saturday and now has a team-leading 11 scores on the season with six in the last two weeks alone.
NIU punter Ryan Neir punted for a season and career-high average of 41.4 yards in the game. Neir's previous best average when he punted more than two times in a game was 36.3 versus Kent State.
