NIU Postgame Notes
NIU won its eighth straight game, extended its Mid-American Conference win streak to 13 games, and won its seventh straight road game. The Huskies' conference winning streak is the longest in the nation.
Northern Illinois has won 17 of its last 18 games dating back to Oct. 1, 2011. The Huskies' 8-1 record ties the 2003 NIU team as the best start since 1965.
Huskie quarterback Jordan Lynch ran for 136 yards on 21 carries with two touchdowns and passed for 274 yards and four scores on 18-of-28 passing. He averaged 6.5 yards per rush and 15.2 yards per completion. He totaled 410 yards of total offense on 49 plays to average 8.4 yards per play with six scores.
Lynch recorded his seventh consecutive 100-yard rushing game, and his eighth of the 2012 season. He tied Garrett Wolfe (2004) for second place in the Huskies' career record books for consecutive 100-yard rushing games.
Lynch's 400-yard day was the second of his career behind only his 467 yards at Army.
Lynch moved into 20th place on the Huskies' career rushing list and now has 1,793 career yards. He has 1,185 yards on the year which ranks 17th on the single season list.
Jordan Lynch scored two rushing touchdowns and threw for at least two touchdowns for the third straight game. He has posted at least one rushing and one passing TD in each of the last five games. Lynch as thrown for a touchdown in eight straight games.
Northern Illinois kicker Mathew Sims kicked a school-record 54-yard field goal as time expired in the first half. His kick broke the previous record of 52 yards set by Steve Azar (2003 vs. Maryland) and tied by Chris Nendick (2005 vs. Akron). Sims' field goal beat his previous career high by 10 yards. Later in the game, Sims kicked a 49-yard field goal which would have been his career high.
Receiver Martel Moore
caught seven passes for 120 yards for his fourth 100-yard receiving game of the season, including a 62-yard reception. With seven catches, Moore has 151 for his career and now ranks fourth at Northern Illinois all-time in career catches. He has 2,178 career receiving yards which is also fourth at NIU all-time.
With 48 catches this year, Moore has already surpassed his career high of 47, set last year.
NIU's Tommylee Lewis returned punts for the first time in his Northern Illinois career and recorded a 44-yard punt return, the longest by a Huskie player this year. He finished the game with four punt returns for 75 yards.
Da'Ron Brown caught his first two touchdown passes of the year, on grabs of nine and eight yards. Brown caught two TD passes a year ago.
Linebacker Jamaal Bass made his first career interception and returned it 44 yards for the lone turnover of the day forced by NIU. NIU has intercepted a pass in each of the last five games.
NIU's Sean Progar recorded three sacks for minus 19 yards in the game bringing his career total to 22.5, fourth on the Northern Illinois all-time list.
