NORTHERN ILLINOIS FOOTBALL 2013
NIU vs Western Michigan - Nov, 26 2013
Huskie Stadium - DeKalb, Ill.

Western Michigan Head Coach P.J. Fleck

Opening comment...

"Jordan Lynch is good."

On Western Michigan's Performance...

"I'm really proud of our young men and our diversity. The way they continued to fight has really inspired me as a football coach. I'm the luckiest man alive to the the head coach of Western Michigan. I'm proud of my young men, their determination and their fight. They've learned what it takes now to be a father, to be a husband and a better son."

"I don't care what our record is. In this day and age and in this world, everyone worries about the wins and losses and thats what we do. We get hired to get fired, thats what coaches do. It's being around a group of men that continue to fight. People come down to practice and they think we're the 11-0 team the way we practice. It's truly awesome and I couldn't be prouder to be their football coach and even prouder to say I coached them, but, the 1-11 record falls completely on me. It's 100-percent percent on me. I didn't prepare them enough, but they will continue to grow the next few years."

Comments about Jordan Lynch...

"I think Jordan Lynch is the best college player in football, I really believe that. It's no disrespect to anyone else. I think he's a heck of a player. I say that because he makes every single guy around him better. He is Northern Illinois and he's what Northern Illinois is about. I'm real proud of him because I know the kid personally and he deserves it. With all the pressure and people saying this and saying that, he continues to perform. He's a football player. He's the best football player because he does everything and has everything at a league level. He's an elite player. From watching him live and just being around him, I really believe that, and I think thats what the Heisman Trophy is all about - finding the best player in the country and finding the best player that makes everyone around him better. I don't know what else to say about him but I will end it with that he deserves to be in New York City. "

Head Coach Rod Carey

Opening Statement...

"Obviously the elements played a huge factor in the game. It was tough for both teams to throw and kick. I am really happy with the win, obviously. You run the ball like we did in those conditions, and score the points that you have to, and then hats off to our defense. We had some guys out with injury, and we held them to just 14 points, so overall I'm really pleased."

On Jordan Lynch...

"Jordan, we ask a lot of him, and he responds every time. I'll just say this too, we ask a lot of all of our guys, and Jordan just said it. He's the recipient of a lot of things, and we ask a lot of guys to do stuff, so we're really pleased. But I will follow that up with saying this, I've said it, and I sound like a broken record, but if he's not in the Heisman conversation, I guess I don't know what a Heisman is or should be, because to me, that's exactly what it is, what you saw tonight."

On Cameron Stingily going over the 1,000 yard rushing mark...

"He's been important all year, just because he got 1,000 doesn't validate him, because he was already validated with us. Cam is finally figuring out to be who you are, and that's getting down there and moving the pile. It's been a transition for him, but I'm really proud of him and the way he's transitioned and made the next jump in his career."

On Jimmie Ward...

"Jimmie Ward to me, if he isn't the best player in the MAC, I don't know who is. I know Khalil Mack is out there too, but this guy makes plays all over the field. He has help too, and he'll be the first one to tell you, but he's pretty special."

NIU Players

Jimmie Ward on playing a 1-10 team...

"It wasn't tough to stay focused. Coach made sure of that on day one of practice. We all went out there and played good defense."

Jimmie Ward on Senior Day...

"It was phenomenal, playing in front of the fans in Huskie Stadium for the last time.  Emotions were riding high, but we stayed focused to get the win."

Luke Eakes on blocking for Jordan Lynch...

"With how strong and fast Jordan is, we never know when he might break one. We have to stay on our blocks. We're proud of our blocking, and Jordan's always running physical. It's great to see.

Jordan Lynch on playing through the weather conditions today...

"It was fun. Throwing the ball was hard with that wind, but that's still no excuse. I have to do a better job there. It's a good thing we have a good running game. Our lineman and receivers did a great job blocking on all levels and remaining tough. "

Jordan Lynch on his naysayers...

"I don't care what they say. I don't pay any attention to them. It's all about this team. That's all I'm focused on."

Jordan Lynch on his records, accomplishments, and expectations when he was younger...

"I always set high expectations for myself. I believe in myself, and I believe in this team. I knew coming into Northern Illinois, the program was on the rise. I saw what Coach Kill, Coach Doeren, and Coach Carey were doing, and I did see visions of it all.

Jordan Lynch on Senior Day...

"It was an emotional day. There are so many good memories with this team, between going undefeated in this season and playing in Huskie Stadium. We sent out the seniors in the right way. It was a blast. I got a good standing ovation playing at home the last time."

Jordan Lynch on moving forward...

"We're 12-0 now, and we want to be 13-0. We take it one game at a time. Our next goal is going 13-0."
