Northern Illinois Post Game Quotes
2010 MAC Championship

Head Coach Jerry Kill

Opening statement
I'd like to congratulate Miami and Coach Haywood. They did a great job and had a great season. They played very, very hard. That was a great football game. They made a few more plays than we did, and that's what got us at the end.

On Miami's final touchdown
We were in a blitz situation and we had a guy not get over the top where he needed to be. Those things happen sometimes, but we certainly wish it wouldn't have.

On Miami's biggest improvement from 2009
"First of all they're very well coached. They've got enough experience years of experience over there. And I think the big thing is confidence. You start winning, you gain confidence. It's the same with our team. They play hard and physical and do some great things."

On NIU's second half adjustments
"We ran more pressure packages in the second half, and I think we just settled down a little bit. We were able to some things defensively and got them off balance, like their defense had our offense off balance. It's just kind of a chess match. We knew we had to put pressure on them, and again, give them credit for making plays when it counts."

On how the team will handle the defeat
"We're 10-3, and you don't win 10 games not doing a good job. The kids have gotten better and better and they've been very coachable. We'll bounce back. They'll go back to work and learn. This hurts, and it should hurt. That's part of life - you don't win all the time. This is when you find out who you are."

Junior Quarterback Chandler Harnish

On how the team will handle the defeat
We've got a lot of mature players on this team and have been in situations like this before. I have all the faith in the world we'll bounce back. We have great leadership, and I don't expect us to go into the tank at all. I expect us to get better and look forward to a bowl game.

On Miami
We knew we would get their best effort. They stopped the run a little bit better than I thought they would. We had some success in the passing game, but like coach said we just didn't make enough big plays.

Senior Linebacker Alex Kube

On Miami
"They executed. They played their tail ends off and they played a great game."

On the loss
"I'm not going to sit here and lie to you. It hurts. It's painful. But coach has done a great job of training us to make sure we can move on. I'm sorry for our community, I'm sorry for our program, but I'm telling we'll bounce back from this and we'll play the bowl game and we'll play it tough, just like we do every week."
