NIU MAC Championship Post-Game Notes
Dec. 4, 2010
***Northern Illinois fell to 0-2 in MAC Championship games all-time.
***NIU quarterback Chandler Harnish broke the school record for single season total offense on a 24-yard rush in the fourth quarter. Harnish needed 235 yards entering the game to break the record, held by George Bork who had 2,945 yards in 1963. He finished the game with a season-best 281 passing yards and three rushing yards and now has 2,991 yards of total offense on the year, the Huskies' best mark ever.
***Even before that, Harnish broke the record for total offense in a career, held by Chris Finlen. Harnish needed just 103 yards to break that record coming into the game and nearly accomplished that with his first TD pass. Harnish now has 6,960 yards of total offense.
***In terms of career numbers, Chandler Harnish moved up to third on the NIU career list for completions (438) and passed Bob Heimerdinger for fourth in touchdown passes (39).
***Chandler Harnish continues his climb up the Huskies single season charts. He has 20 touchdown passes for 2,230 yards on 172 of 266 passing. Those numbers rank fifth (TD passes), fourth (passing yards), and fifth (completions) at NIU for a single season.
***Jake Coffman recorded the 16th and 17th quarterback sack of his career to move into sole possession of fifth place on the NIU all-time list. Coffman's eight tackles were a career high for the fifth-year senior.
***Chandler Harnish hit Martel Moore on a 69-yard touchdown pass to record the longest pass play of the season for NIU. The completion also put Harnish over the 2,000 yard mark in passing on the year, just the eighth time that a Northern Illinois QB has passed for more than 2,000 yards in a season.
***The Huskies blocked a pair of kicks on the season - their first blocked placekicks of the season. Mike Krause blocked a PAT for the second time in his career on Miami's first PAT. His previous block was in the 2008 Independence Bowl. Jake Coffman recorded the first blocked kick of his career on Miami's field goal try at the end of the half. Northern Illinois has blocked six punts on the season.
***Martel Moore recorded his first two-touchdown game of the year with the 69-yard completion and a 27-yard catch for a score in the first quarter. He recorded the first 100-yard receiving day for NIU this season with four catches for 110 yards. His receiving total of 110 yards was a career best for the sophomore.
***Northern Illinois saw its school record tying nine-game win streak halted and lost to a MAC team for the first time on the year.
***Chad Spann moved up to 12th on the NIU single season rushing chart with 54 yards versus Miami. However, Spann saw his consecutive games with a rushing touchdown streak halted at 11.
